Introduction
Improvement of public hygiene is an essential issue of the Hong Kong Government. Hence, the Government has been planning to extend the public sewerage to cover more unsewered villages to collect their sewage for proper treatment. The improvement of water quality at nearby watercourse and sea is a remarkable result. After connecting to the village sewer, no more regular desludging of abandoned septic tank system is needed. Pests, mosquitoes and odour can be reduced to provide a better living environment. There would be no more spillage from septic tank system. Properties and land value would be increased.
This project is commenced in July of 2020. The project comprises construction of about 18km of sewers, about 2km of twin rising mains, 1 no. of submarine outfall, 2 nos. of sewage pumping station and 2 nos. of secondary sewage treatment plants in Sai Kung to improve the sanitary condition of 8 unsewered area in Sai Kung. The main contractor for this project is China Geo-Engineering Corporation and the consultant is Black & Veatch Hong Ltd..

Project Scope
Private Property
Under the village sewerage programme, the Government would extend public sewer to a point near the boundary of the private lot to facilitate sewer connection. The lot owners are responsible for construction of the terminal manholes, the connections to the public sewer and subsequent maintenance.
